The train lands in Laocai in the early morning. Eat at a neighborhood restaurant then set out on a beautiful drive up the mountain to Sapa: Northwest Vietnam's chief travel end of the line. Roosted at a state of mind 1,600 meters above broad valleys and terraced rice paddies, Sapa was initially settled as a ridge retreat for French heads looking to escape the mid year's high temperature.
